    About

My artwork is based upon perceived chaos and how that chaos is contained within an object. I am interested in randomness and layering of units in my wall pieces and the lack of orientation in works that sit on the floor or hang with swiveled wire. Inspired by music, this work reflects the shading, tempo, and interweaving of sounds. Inspired by our dynamic planet, the shape, color, pattern, piling, stacking, and tangling in the pieces reflect what we see when looking at earth forms. Viewing shape and pattern through each other, as a representation of aural and visual complexity, reveals ever-changing relationships.

    Education

M.F.A.            1980     University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI

B.F.A.            1971     University of Denver, Denver, CO

Resident Artist           1972 – 1974     Archie Bray Foundation, Helena, MT

1969     Alfred University , New York State College of Ceramics, Alfred, NY

My sculptures are inspired by music and reflect the color, tempo and the interweaving of sounds. They explore spatial orientation through piling, stacking and tangling that permit viewing one shape and pattern through another and reveal ever-changing relationships. Intense, saturated color defines shapes and adds emotion. As a visual artist with a continuing interest in integrating sound, movement and color in my sculpture, I have also been working on a “Sight and Sound Series” where I combine art and science in interactive installations.
